Parent-teacher interviews: It was great to see everyone again and thank you for being so prompt. Something that I forgot to mention with a few people is absenteeism. Since S.A.S does not work yet I don't know who needs a notice. So If you have 5 days of absence, I need to let you know and when there is 10 days of absence the school sends a letter. You can read about the rest of the policy under useful website.

Parent Teacher Interviews: Parent teacher interviews will be held on March 5th & 6th, 2020. We will be using a new online program for booking the times. A notice will go out later on explaining the whole process on how register. The system becomes alive on February 24th. Last November some parents needed appointments on Tuesday and Wednesday. I will be available from 3 to 4 on those days but you can not book these days with the new computerized system. Just write me a note if you need an appointment on those days.
Anti-Bullying Week: This takes place next week and culminates with an assembly on Thursday the 27th .This is a note from the music department: “The theme of this year's Anti-Bullying Assembly is diversity and as part of our celebration, we would love to have students from all grades wear traditional costumes or clothing that reflects their family heritage. Let's celebrate the diversity at Sherwood School!”

The children are learning how to identify nouns, adjectives, verbs, masculine, feminine and plural. At home you can also ask your child why certain words have specific colors. It would be a good review for them and help with being more accurate with the grammar aspect in their writings. Here is our color code to help with this.

Christmas bake sale: On Thursday December 19th the grade 6 are have a bake sale. Each item will be 75 cents. There will be Mars bar squares, Rice Krispies squares, fudge and chocolate covered chips.
Library books: A reminder that all library books need to be returned unless you need to finish it over the holidays.
Update on science: This week we are doing a science unit on the light. I would like the children to bring a small flashlight if they can, a large shinny spoon and a small item for a guessing game for tomorrow.
Christmas party on Friday: Please do not send any treats. I will have a peanut free ice cream Christmas log for a treat at lunchtime.
Christmas skate on Friday: A reminder to send the release form for skating and that we will be skating from 9:45 to 10:45 on Friday December 20th. Parents are welcomed to come and skate with there children and help to tie skates. Everyone needs to wear a helmet. I also like to see the children wear their snow pants and gloves for protection. With so many children skating with different abilities, it will minimize or prevent bad cuts if someone skates over a student which has happened in the past.

Update in spelling: A number 7 and 8 has been added to the spelling list for mistakes made in the spelling test the previous week which means that some children might have 7 or 8 words to study instead of 6.
Mental math: We have had two quizzes so far. Most children did well with the quiz on the doubles but doubles plus one was a little harder. Work especially on the subtractions with double plus 1. The strategy think addition to solve a subtraction is explained on the white cards.
Scholastic order: Today I am sending the scholastic order forms for the months of November and December. They will be due Friday November 29th.

Spelling: This week will be our first monthly spelling test. The children will test each other on lists 1 and 2 on Monday and I test everyone on list 3 and 4 on Tuesday since everyone has the verbs. I will be checking the lists each day. Pay attention on the words where your child has difficulties. The last 2 spelling tests are going home today. Please look for it in the front pocket of the "devoirs" duo-tang, sign and return by tomorrow, thank you.
Fall clean-up Friday October 25th: A sheet is going home today. Anyone wishing to sign up, please send in your form anytime this week before Thursday, October 24th.
Reading: All last week I have been testing the children on their reading. I am almost done. You should see new books in the book bag coming home next week.
Hallowe'en party: Students may wear costumes to school on Wednesday, Oct. 31st. They wear them outside at recess, too, so please consider this when preparing the costume. We’ll go to “Spooktacular” in the gym at some point in the day although students cannot wear a mask or bring a weapon that is part of their outfit. I will also provide a small snack and treat in the afternoon. I know some students might like to bring in Hallowe’en candies or treat bags but we have friends in our class with food allergies which limit intake of certain food products, and I really wouldn’t want to spoil the day by having them feel left out. If you could please send in an extra drink to go with the afternoon snack that would be greatly appreciated!

Grade 3 Thanksgiving Assembly: This is a day time event only. It will take place on Thursday October 10th from 1:40 to 2:15. Parents are welcomed but we do have limited space since all of the students will be there.
Library day: Our library day is now on day 5. This year children will not be allowed to take books out unless all the books are returned on their due date. Our next library day is on Wednesday.
Dressing for the assembly: The children can wear Fall colors: red, orange, green, yellow. If they can wear all one color such dressing all in green or orange etc. that would be great and if not they can wear a green top and a yellow bottom. Whatever combination they want is fine.
Food Drive: This week our school is collecting nonperishable items for the Upper room. Donations will be presented at the assembly. This year we are partnering with FCC and their Drive Away Hunger campaign. THANK YOU for your anticipated support!
School Fundraiser: The catalogues went home last week. Once your have completed the order, please send in the form along with the money. Keep the pink sheet (the last one) for your records.If you do not wish to participate, please send the catalogue back to school. Please return your order by next Tuesday.

Spelling: We had our first spelling test on Friday. If there is a mistake the same word will be on next week's test. Below the spelling test, I also dictate a sentence to see if the children are using the grammar concepts learn up until now. This week was the use of capital letter and period. There is also a math questions of previously learned concepts. I will send those tests every second week to be signed.
Book bags: Book bags will start going home this week. The children are to read the books several times during the month. The books will be changed when there is good fluency, ability to retell the story easily and understanding of most of the vocabulary. The books should be easy for them except for the guided reading book where new learning will occur.
DFS Fundraising: Our yearly fundraising campaign officially starts today! Student packages will go home today (please see inside for the parent letter). When returning orders, please send in the top two fundraising forms – completely filled out - and the accompanying money. We need the student name and homeroom (3A Madame MacGregor) on each order form. You need to keep the back form so you’ll have a record of the deliveries you’ll need to make. If you place your order on-line, DO NOT submit the paper form as this will create a supplicate order. Please note that the orders are due by October 9th. Thanks you!
Annual Food Drive: This begins next Monday, Oct. 7th. Students can bring in non-perishable items to their classroom. On Thursday, October 10th the food donations will be displayed on the stage and presented to the food bank representative at our Thanksgiving Assembly.

Orange shirt day: We will have "orange shirt day" on Monday September 30th. Orange shirt day is a movement that officially began in 2013 but in reality it began in 1973 when six year old Phyllis Webstad entered the St. Joseph Mission Residential School, outside of Williams Lake, BC. Young Phyllis was wearing a brand new orange shirt for her first day of school – new clothes being a rare and wonderful thing for a First Nation girl growing up in her grandmother’s care - but the Mission Oblates quickly stripped her of her new shirt and replaced it with the school’s institutional uniform."

Terry Fox Run The Terry Fox Run will take place on September 26th in the afternoon. We will be asking for small donations from the students to contribute to the Terry Fox Foundation for Cancer Research.
Orange shirt day: We will have "orange shirt day" on Monday September 30th. Orange shirt day is a movement that officially began in 2013 but in reality it began in 1973 when six year old Phyllis Webstad entered the St. Joseph Mission Residential School, outside of Williams Lake, BC. Young Phyllis was wearing a brand new orange shirt for her first day of school – new clothes being a rare and wonderful thing for a First Nation girl growing up in her grandmother’s care - but the Mission Oblates quickly stripped her of her new shirt and replaced it with the school’s institutional uniform."

Grade 3 Thanksgiving concert: We have started to practice for our Thanksgiving concert which will take place on Thursday October 10th at 1:30. The children will be practicing to memorize their song in class and at home for the next 3 weeks. We are doing one paragraph at a time so that it is not too overwhelming for the children.
